We began our art study this week. It's one of my favorite studies so this year, we'll be continuing the study through the end of the school year. We started this study learning about shapes in art, specifically circles. We learned about Italian artist, Sandro Botticelli (BAH-TUH-CHEL-LAY). Botticelli was known for his round compositions. We actually used the pottery wheel to make round compositions. The children loved this activity! Most of them wanted to make several prints.
We talked about how colors make us feel and how artists use colors to express feelings. We reviewed colors by playing a game, Riddle Riddle Ree. It's much like I spy. The children would try to guess the color that I was describing before I placed the color on the flannel board. We'll continue to incorporate shapes and colors into our art study.
The boys had a great day overall. Bennett ended up coming to class late and we were all glad to see him.
I know that I've said this to you all but the boys are a joy. I'm amazed every week at how well they play together. They all have great imaginations too, something that I wish could be bottled these days:-)
